Vanderpump & Sykes Solicitors
Vanderpump & Sykes Solicitors:
We are a well respected North London partnership offering a huge range of services to business and private clients through our team of highly experienced lawyers.
Paul George Vanderpump and Dugdale Sykes began practising as solicitors in 1899. Paul was joined by his brother Frank Louis Vanderpump, who continued practising after his brother retired with ill health. Henry Sykes son Robert Henry Dugdale Sykes also became a solicitor and in 1935 amalgamated his practice with Frank Louis Vanderpump, to form Vanderpump & Sykes.
Surviving World War II
The Second World War took its toll on the firm like everyone else in the country. Sweepstakes were held daily as to which solicitor would be called up next. Robert Sykes was called to serve his country for six years, whilst Frank Vanderpump, too old to be called up, served as a fire watcher. The main focus of work during the war years was probate and criminal -conveyancing was very slow as people feared the Luftwaffe would flatten London.
Creating the modern practice
After the war, Vanderpump and Sykes expanded from their premises over Barclays Bank in the market place to Silver Street. In the 1980s the partnership consolidated into modern offices at Lough Point, offering the space to grow and exploit the potential of communication and information technology.
